Ikat Fabrics

ikat fabrics

The word Ikat comes from the Malay work ‘mengikat’ meaning to tie or bind. This fabric design is woven where the pattern is tied and dyed before being woven by hand on a loom (similar to tie dye). The Ikat process is one of the oldest surviving weaving techniques and is used by makers from all over the world.
